MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - The top-ranked Gopher Hockey program improved to 3-0-0 on the season with a 5-2 win over Bemidiji State in the 2014-15 home opener at Mariucci Arena on Friday night.

Travis Boyd netted both a power-play and short-handed goal in the win while Taylor Cammarata led with all players with three points on a goal and two assists.

On the other end of the net, Adam Wilcox continued his stellar start to the season to move to 3-0-0 and 7-0-0 all-time against the Beavers. The junior All-American made 29 saves on 31 shots including a spectacular sprawling save with his stick to just keep the puck from crossing the goal line during the second period.

The Gophers (3-0-0 overall, 0-0-0-0 Big Ten) have yet to trail their opponents this season and got off to another good start on Friday at Cammarata put the team up 1-0 at 8:41 of the first period with assists from Sam Warning and Justin Kloos, who now has seven points in three games against the Beavers.

Kyle Rau added his second goal of the year 35 seconds into the second period while Leon Bristedt picked up his first career assist on the goal along with Jake Bischoff. Mitch Cain would cut the lead back to one less than a minute later.

Boyd led the way for the remainder of the second - scoring first on a short-handed goal at 4:40 from Brady Skjei and then at 8:38 on a power-play goal from Rau and Cammarata.

Minnesota would end the night 2-for-6 on the power play after Hudson Fasching scored at 9:18 of the third period for his fourth-straight goal with a game. Cammarata picked up his third and final point of the night with an assist on the goal while Mike Reilly also earned an assist for his 50th point as a Gopher. Cory Ward scored the game's final goal on the power play for BSU while Michael Bitzer took the loss in net for the Beavers.

The Gophers outshot Bemidji State 32-31 in the win and also went 5-for-6 on the penalty kill including a 5-on-3 kill.

Minnesota and Bemidji State close out the weekend series on Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT. Watch the game on FOX Sports North PLUS, stream on BTN2Go.com and listen to the action on 1500 ESPN.
