MINNEAPOLIS - Behind a pair of goals from Seth Ambroz and a 24-save performance from Adam Wilcox, the No. 1 Minnesota men's hockey team topped No. 12/13 Wisconsin 4-1 on Friday night to win the first-ever Big Ten Conference game.

The Gophers (10-2-1 overall, 1-0-0-0 Big Ten) also picked up goals from Mike and Connor Reilly - the second time this season that the brothers have scored goals in the same game.

After Wisconsin (4-4-1, 0-1-0-0 Big Ten) took an early lead with Joseph LaBate's fourth goal of the year in the first period, Minnesota's offense took over with two goals in the first and another pair of tallies in the third period as Minnesota outshot the visiting Badgers 45-25 on the night.

Mike Reilly scored his sixth goal of the season - most among Big Ten defensemen - at 9:23 of the first period on the power play with an assist from Kyle Rau before Ambroz tallied the eventual game winner - his first of two goals on the night - at 13:14 with assists from Tom Serratore and Justin Holl. Mike Reilly's tally would be the only power-play goal of the night with Minnesota going 1-for-6 while the Badgers were 0-for-5.

After a scoreless second period, Connor Reilly added his third goal of the season at 10:46 of the third when Nate Condon and Justin Kloos set up the redshirt freshman forward. Ambroz pocketed an empty netter for his second goal of the night - the fifth time in the junior's career that the forward tallied two goals - with Ben Marshall and Travis Boyd picking up assists.

Wilcox improved to 9-2-1 on the season with the 24-save performance while Landon Peterson fell to 2-4-1 after making 41 saves for the Badgers.

The two border rivals continue Big Ten play tomorrow evening at 5:10 p.m. CT at Mariucci Arena. The series finale will be broadcast on FOX Sports North, BTN2Go.com and 1500 ESPN.
