MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota men's hockey team improved to 7-1-1 Friday night with a 4-1 win against in-state foe Minnesota State at Mariucci Arena. Adam Wilcox was stellar between the pipes for the Gophers, stopping 34 shots and Justin Kloos, Mike Reilly, Connor Reilly, and Seth Ambroz potted goals.

After conceding the first scoring chances of the game on a flurry in front of the Gopher cage, Minnesota picked up the pace and controlled the play for the remainder of the period.

The Gophers opened the scoring just over halfway through the frame when senior Nate Condon hit Kloos with a seeing-eye pass in the slot. Kloos snapped a shot past Maverick netminder Cole Huggins' glove 10:31 into regulation for his fourth tally of the year.

Mike Reilly extended the Gophers' lead 8:02 later with a his fourth goal of the season as Condon left the puck at the top of the left circle for the Chanhassen, Minn. native, who rifled a shot into the top-left corner as he took a hit from a Minnesota State defender.

Minnesota State picked up its play in the second, but gave the Gophers a power play just before the midway point of regulation and the home team capitalized.

Redshirt freshman Connor Reilly unloaded a one-timer from the right half wall to extend Minnesota's lead to three. The assists on the goal went to Sam Warning and Mike Reilly. Warning, who has a point in all nine of the team's games this season, has a team-best 15 points in 2013-14.

Mike and Connor Reilly became the first set of brothers to score goals in the same game for the Maroon and Gold since March 13, 2004 when Ryan and Grant Potulny each netted markers in a 7-3 WCHA first-round playoff win over St. Cloud State.

In the final frame, the Mavericks carried the play and outshot the Gophers 16-6, but Wilcox stood tall to carry Minnesota to victory. With 7:12 to play, Zach Palmquist broke the sophomore goaltender's shutout bid with his first goal of the season.

Ambroz capped the scoring with 26.7 seconds left, picking off an MSU breakout pass and flinging the puck into and empty net.

The two teams will wrap up their series Saturday night at 7.
