Lucas Stieber joined Minnesota as a director of player development in April of 2025. Before his time at Minnesota, Stieber was a graduate assistant at Colorado State in May of 2024. Stieber played four years of collegiate basketball, first at Wisconsin-Green Bay and two years at Gardner Webb.Â
The Green Bay, Wis., native started his career at Wisconsin-Green Bay and played in 53 games before heading south to Gardner Webb. With the Phoenix, he was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team in the 2020-21 season. The guard started 78 of the 116 games he played, including all 32 in 2023-24 for GWU. He averaged 5.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists for his career.Â
Stieber earned a bachelor's degree from Wisconsin-Green Bay in 2022 in sports communications. He went on to earn a master's degree in sports management from Gardner Webb in 2024.Â
Stieber comes from a long line of basketball coaches. He is the grandson of legendary coach Dick Bennett and nephew of former coach Virginia head coach Tony Bennett.
