2024 Outdoor Track & Field • Redshirt Freshman Season: Earned a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten team for work in the classroom... Made his official debut with the Gophers at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, Fla., where he finished second overall with a seasons best shot put mark of 17.33m (56-10 1/4)... Was fourth at the 114th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, in the shot put with a toss of 16.95m (55-7 1/2)... Made his postseason debut at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in the shot put where he finished 16th with a throw of 17.16m (56-3 3/4).
2023 Outdoor Track & Field • Freshman Season: Was an unattached competitor in five meets during redshirt season with the Gophers... Had a season-best throw in the shot put at the Snowshoe Open, finishing sixth with a toss of 16.64m (54-7 1/4)... Won the Janis Rider/Doug Bolstorff Invite in the shot put with a mark of 16.00m (52-6).
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Tracy-Milroy-Balaton High School in Tracy, Minn.... wore No. 54 for the Panthers... coached by Jason Kainz... also competed in track and field and basketball (was a 1,000-point scorer)... won the 2021 Class A state championship in shot put with a throw of 59’-2.25”... consensus three-star recruit... 247Sports listed him as the No. 5 prospect in Minnesota and the No. 70 recruit at his position.
PERSONAL: Son of Terry and Sue Nelson... has three siblings (Tommy, Asa and Jessie)... father, Terry Nelson, played college football at Southwest Minnesota State University... brother, Tommy, played college football at Bethel University... sister, Jessie, played college volleyball at Rochester Community and Technical College.
