A message from Athletic Director, Mark Coyle

Mark Coyle

One thing that always impresses me when I speak to our former athletes is how much pride they took in competing for Minnesota. Whether they wore the Maroon and Gold four years ago or forty, they still feel a tremendous honor representing the Gophers today. It's another constant reminder that the "M" never comes off, even when eligibility is exhausted. They often ask me what they can do to stay connected to their program or how they can help the athletic department. There are three areas where our alums can still proudly represent the "M" and positively impact our current student-athletes.

First, our alums can always be positive public advocates for the University, athletic department and team that they so proudly represented.

Secondly, our former Gophers – especially those who have moved into the business world – can always serve as mentors for our current student-athletes and offer internships or mentorship programs for them. It’s another way for to impact the life of a young person and prepare them for their future when they are done competing in sports.

Lastly, I remind our alums that they can make a difference at the civic level. They can speak to their local politicians and let them know of the impact that a strong and competitive athletic department has on their community and the state of Minnesota.
