Cade Tyson Returns to the Minnesota Men’s Basketball Program

The University of Minnesota has announced that Cade Tyson (Monroe, N.C.) has rejoined the men's basketball program for the 2026-27 season. Tyson, who was Minnesota's leading scorer a year ago, has enrolled in classes and will practice with the team as he awaits eligibility status.
"We're excited to have Cade rejoin our program," head coach Niko Medved said. "We're here to support him in any way we can through this process and are looking forward to having Cade around the facility and program."
Tyson, a 6-foot, 7-inch guard/forward, was an All-Big Ten honorable mention a year ago. Also an NABC Second Team All-District and Academic All-District, Tyson led the Gophers in points per game (19.6), points (628), free throws made and attempted (175-213), minutes played (36.7) and field goals made and attempted (191-382). Tyson has played four years of collegiate basketball: two at Belmont, one at North Carolina, and one at Minnesota. In those four years, he scored 1,621 points, made 213 three-pointers and 528 rebounds in 124 college games.
Minnesota starts the season with an exhibition game on Oct. 15 vs. Omaha, and opens the regular season Nov. 2 vs. North Dakota. The full non-conference schedule is located HERE.
