Gophers in the MLB:
- Brett Bateman made his major league debut on August 7 and quickly became the Blue Jays' leadoff hitter. He batted .329 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 41 games.
- Florida's Max Meyer went 9-1 with a 2.68 ERA to earn his first All-Star Game selection. He didn't pitch after July 18 due to injury.
- After making his MLB debut in April, the Angels' George Klassen returned to the majors in August with a 2-1 record and 2.01 ERA in four starts. He didn't pitch after Aug. 24 due to injury.
On This Date:
Sept. 30, 2006: Gopher Athletics held a ground-breaking ceremony for Minnesota's new on-campus Football stadium. Minnesota hosted Michigan later in the day at the Metrodome.
