Four Gophers earned academic awards

MINNEAPOLIS - Amaya Battle, Mara Braun, Grace Grocholski and Tori McKinney of the University of Minnesota women's basketball team have earned spots on the 2025-26 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, it was announced Tuesday.

The 2025-26 Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

For the third consecutive year, Amaya Battle has earned a spot on the CSC All-District Team. The Hopkins, Minn., native was named to the All-Big Ten third team and the All-Big Ten defensive team this season. In addition, she earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Battle hit a game-winning buzzer-beater against Ole Miss to send the Golden Gophers to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2005. Last year, Battle was honored as a third-team CSC Academic All-American and was the first Gopher to earn the honor since 2021.

After a successful year on the court and in the classroom, Mara Braun has been named to the All-District Team for the first time in her career. Braun earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors as well as Academic All-Big Ten recognition. This season, she is averaging 11.8 points per game and has recorded 43 steals and a team-leading 21 blocks.

Defensive standout Tori McKinney made the list for the first time in her career. The sophomore was named to the All-Big Ten defensive team, All-Big Ten second team by the league's coaches, and All-Big Ten third team by the league's media. McKinney also was named Academic All-Big Ten earlier this month. She leads the Gophers' offense, averaging 12.9 points per game. She has tallied a team-leading 57 steals and ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 2.04 steals per game.

After earning Academic All-Big Ten honors, Grace Grocholski has been named to the All-District Team for the second consecutive year. She leads Minnesota this season with 388 points across 32 starts. The guard-forward was an All-Big Ten second-team selection this past season. She has made 219 3-pointers in her career, ranking fifth all-time in Minnesota program history.
