Sophomore's scoring led 'U' to series sweep
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Thanks to a five-point weekend leading Minnesota to a rivalry series sweep, Erik Påhlsson earned the Big Ten Conference Men's Hockey Second Star of the Week honor Tuesday, the first weekly award of his career.
Påhlsson broke out of his scoring slump in a major way to lead the Golden Gophers to a sweep of No. 8/7 Wisconsin. The sophomore posted five points on three goals and two assists, recording multi-point efforts in each contest. His production over the weekend nearly doubled his offensive output from the previous 21 outings where he had six points before the start of the series. Påhlsson has now tallied a point in five of eight all-time appearances versus the Badgers, totaling 11 of his 29 career points.
The first power-play goal of his career in the second period on Friday served as the eventual game winner and snapped a streak of 19 games without a goal and seven games without a point. A native of Landskrona, Sweden, he followed that up with a season-high three points Saturday, including his first multi-goal outing as a Gopher. He found the back of the net just 38 seconds into the second stanza before adding an insurance tally early in the third period to help seal the victory.
Påhlsson is the fourth Minnesota representative to land weekly accolades in 2025-26 after forwards Brodie Ziemer (Dec. 9) and Javon Moore (Dec. 2) earned first and second star honors, respectively, while goaltender Luca Di Pasquo (Nov. 11) also picked up a second star.
