Podium Finish and Personal Bests Highlight Final Day of B1G Championships

MADISON, WIS. – The University of Minnesota men's swimming and diving program closed out the final day of competition at the 2026 Men's Big Ten Championships today, collecting a first place finish and more personal bests to close out the four day meet at the Soderholm Family Aquatics Center.
Over in the diving well, Drew Bennett took the first place finish on the 10 meter platform with a personal best score in the "A" finals of 442.55. Bennett was named First Team All Big Ten and Diver of the Championships for his efforts. Braylon Goodno finished 11th overall in the event, posting a score of 300.60 over his six dives.
Joe Polyak took 13th overall in the "B" final of the 200 IM, tallying a time of 1:43.87. Jack Ballard finished 24th overall in the event, tallying a time of 1:47.64.
Luke Brennan took seventh overall in the 1650 free, swimming to an NCAA qualifying time of 14:57.89. Ethan Schutten tallied a personal best time of 15:08.74, finishing 12th overall in the event.
Jacob Johnson swam to a fourth place finish overall in the 200 fly, tallying a NCAA qualifying time of 1:40.20. Daniel Eichel took 15th overall with a 1:44.65 and Oliver Schimberg took 20th overall with a personal best time of 1:46.21.
Ian Steffen tallied a 12th place finish in the 200 back with a personal best and NCAA qualifying time of 1:41.82 in the "B" finals. Ryan Slonac took 20th overall with a personal best of 1:42.55.
Minnesota closed out the events with a ninth place finish in the 400 free relay, tallying a total time of 2:55.69. Davide Harabagiu tallied a split of 43.67 to start the relay, followed by Joe Polyak with a split time of 43.30. Tyler Hansen swam to a 44.31 split throughout the third leg, and John Watson anchored the effort with a split time of 44.41.
The University of Minnesota finishes the four day event in eighth place on the final team standings, tallying a team score of 644. Indiana University goes home with the first place finish in the team standings with a total score of 1544.5.
