2/15/2026 7:09:00 PM | Women's Basketball

It marks the third consecutive season that head coach Dawn Plitzuweit has achieved 20 wins

MADISON, Wis. - Mara Braun scored 20 points to help lead the Minnesota women's basketball team (20-6, 11-4 Big Ten) past the Wisconsin Badgers (13-13, 5-10 Big Ten) 83-60 on the road Sunday.

The Golden Gophers had four players score in double figures, led by Braun, who had 20 points. Amaya Battle tacked on 17 points and Sophie Hart helped out with 13 points and six rebounds. Tori McKinney had 12 points and matched her career high with five steals.

Minnesota out-rebounded Wisconsin 29-26 in Sunday's game, paced by six boards from Hart. The Gophers also grabbed 10 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second chance points.

The Minnesota defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Sunday's game, forcing 21 Wisconsin turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 26 points on the other end of the floor. McKinney's five steals led the way individually for the Maroon and Gold.

How It Happened

Minnesota struggled out of the gate, falling behind 18-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Minnesota kept the Badgers from increasing their lead before going on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a three from Braun, to take a 21-20 lead. The Gophers proceeded to tack on eight points to that lead and enjoyed a 40-31 advantage heading into halftime. Minnesota dominated in the paint, scoring 14 of its 28 points close to the basket.

Minnesota continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run to expand its lead further to 54-40 with 5:06 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Badgers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Gophers still entered the fourth quarter with a 62-50 edge. Minnesota knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 22 total points.

Minnesota started tacking on points in the fourth almost immediately, going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Hart's layup, to grow the lead to 68-50 with 8:19 to go in the contest. The Gophers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 83-60 win. Minnesota took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 21 points in the paint.
