Joining Murr at the Spengler Cup in December
MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota men's hockey captain Brodie Ziemer was one of five players added to the 2026 United States Collegiate Select Team roster Thursday. He joins Golden Gophers teammate Evan Murr on the squad that will take part in the Spengler Cup this December in Davos, Switzerland.
After posting a team-leading 36 points with a point-per-game average during the 2025-26 campaign, Ziemer returned to campus and is wearing the 'C' on his sweater this season. He earned a spot on the All-B1G Second Team a year ago thanks to a career-best 23 goals, 11 of which were scored on the power play, ranking second in the NCAA.
A native of Chaska, Minn., Ziemer had a rare weekend to start 2026-27 as he was held off the scoresheet in the Gophers first series at Michigan Tech, an occurrence that only happened once last season. He will look to kickstart the offense on the road with an in-state matchup against the Bulldogs this weekend before Minnesota's nine-game homestand runs from Oct. 22 to Nov. 27.
The USCS open play at the 2026 Spengler Cup on Saturday, Dec. 26 against Frölunda HC of Sweden before facing host HC Davos on either Dec. 27 or Dec. 28. The USCS roster, which will feature 25 student-athletes from all six NCAA Division I conferences, will continue to be announced in the coming months.
The Spengler Cup is the oldest invitational hockey tournament in the world, with the first edition held in 1923. The annual competition is held each December and features six teams from Europe and North America competing at the Eisstadion Davos.
