Gopher Invitational Day One Recap

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota tennis team competed in day one of the 13th annual Gopher Invitational tournament on Friday going 3-1 in doubles and 3-1 in singles.
Key Moments from Friday
In doubles, juniors Anlin Xie and Yinong Ma bounced back from a narrow 7-5 loss to North Dakota's Ethel Li and Jule Schulte, dominating their second match with a 6-0 win over Northern Iowa's Yangjiaxin Li and Kanyanut Sudsaard. Nora Knezevic and Sofia Pinto went undefeated on the day, taking down St. Thomas' Alize Yarwood and Emilia Korseth 6-3 before edging South Dakota's Natalia Alves De Lima and Anna Medvyedyeva 7-5.
Xie opened singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Drake's Jordane Dookie, followed by Knezvic defeating North Dakota's Andrea Pineda. Pinto added another victory with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Drake's Maja Dodik. Ma fell in a tiebreaker to St. Thomas' Korseth, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 to finish out the day.
Play Continues Tomorrow
The Gophers will compete in split action Saturday at the Gopher Invitational and the ITA All-American Championships. Play begins at 9 a.m. at Baseline Tennis Center and 8 a.m. (CT) at the ITA All-American Championships.
Mia Liepert and Anali Kocevar will open doubles play at 8 a.m. (CT) tomorrow at the ITA All-American Championships.
