Hanson and Swenson Take Home B1G Weekly Honors

Hanson won player, Swenson setter of the week
CHICAGO, ILL. -- Minnesota senior outside Julia Hanson and redshirt freshman setter Stella Swenson were named Big Ten Player and Setter of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.
A Prior Lake H.S., graduate, Hanson was named Golden Gopher Invitational Tournament MVP after going for 4.64 kills, 1.73 digs, 0.36 blocks and 0.09 aces per set in the three matches. She hit .370 for the weekend with 51 kills.
Hanson had a season-high 21 kills on .340 hitting Friday vs. Cal Poly while adding five digs and a block. She then posted 12 kills on a scorching .632 hitting Saturday, adding four digs and two solo blocks. She finished the tournament with 18 kills on .286 with 10 digs and a block for her first double double of the year on Sunday.
Swenson, a Minnetonka, Minn., native, was named to the Golden Gopher Invitational All-Tournament Team after going for 11.27 assists, 2.91 digs, 0.91 kills and 0.45 blocks per set in three wins. She posted a career-high 48 assists to go with seven kills and 14 digs Friday vs. Cal Poly. Swenson followed it up with 39 assists, two kills and seven digs in a sweep over Ball State. She then ended her weekend with 37 assists, 11 digs, three blocks, a kill and an ace in a win over St. Thomas.
Stella helped Minnesota hit nearly .400 on Friday and then a season-best .523 Saturday. It was Minnesota's first time hitting over .500 in a match since 2017.
The No. 11 Golden Gophers (3-1, 0-0 B1G) went 3-0 at the Golden Gopher Invitational this weekend. They'll take on Vanderbilt on the road Friday night at 7 p.m. CT on the SEC Network.
