Gophers to Compete with Aurora in USL W National Semifinals

Saturday’s game is slated for 7 p.m. CT and is hosted by Aurora at TCO Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS - Four former Golden Gophers and one current student-athlete are set to compete with Minnesota Aurora FC this Saturday in the USL W League national semifinals. Aurora will face Utah United for a chance to advance to the national championship, scheduled for the weekend of July 18.
Among the former Gophers is Aurora head coach Jen Larrick, who played at the University of Minnesota from 2013 to 2015. During her collegiate career, Larrick helped the Gophers reach two NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the second round in 2015.
Also on the Aurora roster are Minnesota alumni Elizabeth Overberg, Jelena Zbiljic and Evelyn Calhoon - all three starters on the 2024 Gophers squad. The trio played key roles in one of the program's most successful seasons, which included an undefeated regular-season home record, a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in 14 years, and a final No. 17 national ranking by United Soccer Coaches.
Mariah Nguyen, the only current Gopher on the Aurora roster, will make her debut for Minnesota this fall after transferring from St. Thomas. A member of Aurora's roster since the club's inaugural season, Nguyen is the club's all-time minutes leader (3,318), ranks second in career goals (19) and all-time points (47) for the team.
