Gophers' Duo Added to USA Hockey Staff

Miller, LeRoy join Motzko with Team USA
MINNEAPOLIS - Two coaches from the University of Minnesota men's hockey program will join Head Coach Bob Motzko's staff at the upcoming 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships starting in December. Steve Miller will serve as an Assistant Coach and Jacob LeRoy joins Team USA as the Video Coach.

Miller is entering his fourth season as the Maroon and Gold's Associate Head Coach in 2025-26 and will take part in his eighth event with the U.S. National Junior Team. The Sun Prairie, Wis., native has won six medals in his tenure with USA Hockey, including gold medals in each of the last two tournaments. The three-time NCAA champion has more than 35 years of coaching experience and was honored with the American Hockey Coaches Association Terry Flanagan Award in 2009 recognizing an assistant coach's career body of work.

LeRoy joins the international competition for the first time in his career in the role of Video Coach as he prepares for his fifth season at Minnesota in the role of Director of Operations. A product of Dublin, Ohio, he currently runs all video analytics for the Golden Gophers as well as travel and gameday logistics. LeRoy has helped the program claim three Big Ten Conference regular season titles and make four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two trips to the NCAA Frozen Four.

Team USA will play in the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship December 26, 2025 - January 5, 2026, in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minn. The U.S. is in Group A, entering the tournament as two-time defending gold medalist, and joined by Germany, Slovakia, Sweden, and Switzerland, where it will play preliminary round contests at Xcel Energy Center. Group B will be hosted at the Gophers' 3M Arena at Mariucci and feature Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, and Latvia.
