University of Minnesota head coach Niko Medved has announced the addition of Chance Stephens (Riverside, Calif.) to the Gopher men's basketball program. Stephens joins the Gophers after a two-year tenure at Maryland.

"We're excited to add Chance to the roster," Medved said. "He is an experienced guard with a high basketball IQ and can really stretch the floor. Chance also has a high motor and we're looking forward to having that energy on the team this year."

Stephens, a 6-foot, 3-inch guard from Riverside, Calif., was at Maryland from 2023-25 and saw action as a redshirt sophomore last year after missing the 2023-24 season due to injury. Before his Terrapin stint, Stephens was a freshman at Loyola Marymount in the 2022-23 campaign, where he saw action in 28 of 31 games and four starts. As a rookie with the Lions, Stephens scored 167 points and averaged six points a game. He was third on the team with 49 made threes that season and fourth on the team at 37.4 from the arc. His career-best seven threes and a season-high 23 points came at LMU's Jamaica Classic, which he was later named the Tournament MVP and WCC Freshman of the Week.

As a prep athlete, Stephens played at Riverside Poly, where he was a three-time all-conference selection and garnered All-CIF honors in his senior year.
