Brown won the 60m hurdles title in Zagreb on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota graduate student Spencer Brown won his first Croatian national title on Sunday, capturing the 60m hurdles championship on Sunday in Zagreb, Croatia. Additionally the Maroon and Gold had a trio of participants at the USATF Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.

Spencer Brown's international title in the 60m hurdles came in a time of 7.81 seconds after the second-year Gopher traveled about 7-9 hours to Croatia from the Twin Cities. Brown's time goes down as the fourth time he has dropped a 7.81, or lower, this indoor season. Brown now shifts his focus to the outdoor season with the Golden Gophers, with the first scheduled competition set for March 8 in Tuscon, Ariz., at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta.

In Staten Island, the USATF Indoor Championships saw two former and one current Gophers compete. Matthew Wilkinson had the best finish of the trio, placing fourth in the men's 3000m final in a time of 7:40.26. In the 3000m final Wilkinson led for a majority of the race before crossing the finish line fourth overall. Wilkinson now awaits his World Athletics Indoor Championships fate, which will be contested in Nanjing, China in March.

Former Gopher great Bethany Hasz set a seasons best time in the women's 3000m final on Saturday in New York. Hasz's 9:02.64 is the second fastest 3000m time for the Alexandira, Minn., native since Feb. 2022. Lastly, current Gopher Isaiah Schafer traveled to the east coast and competed in the men's shot put final on Sunday. Schafer's 19.38m (63-7) was good enough to finish seventh among some of the top U.S. competition. Schafer next returns to the Maroon and Gold where he will begin his final collegiate outdoor campaign on March 8, in Tuscon, Ariz.
