Four Gophers Notch Top-Ten Finishes on Day Two of Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Minnesota women's swim and dive program saw four top-ten finishes on the second day of the Big Ten Championships. Three Gopher swimmers also set new personal records on Thursday evening.
Freshman Livi Wanner placed fifth in the finals of the 50 Free with a new PR of 22.09, which also hit the NCAA 'B' cut. Both senior Eliot Kennedy and sophomore Katie McCarthy also reached 'B' cut with new PRs, each doing so in the 500 Free. Kennedy finished 8th with a time of 4:39.82 and McCarthy finished 10th with a time of 4:40.44.
The 200 Free Relay squad also cracked the top ten in its respective finals, finishing 8th with a total time of 1:29.55. Wanner, in her second finals event, started off the race with a 22.16 split for the Gophers, followed by sophomore Morgan Thomas' 22.46 mark. Senior Hannah Cornish then notched a 22.06 before junior Ava Yablonski anchored the team with a time of 22.33.
In the diving well, Vivi Del Angel led the Maroon & Gold with a score of 294.80, placing her at 9th in the 1 Meter finals. In the same event, Addie Albrecht placed at 16th with a score of 268.65 and Elna Widerstrom placed at 18th with a score of 265.20.
With 239 points so far, Minnesota sits in sixth place heading into the third day of the Big Ten Championships. Ohio State sits at first place with 480 points, holding a 49-point lead over Michigan at second place.
Friday's schedule includes preliminary and finals for the 100 Fly, 400 IM, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back, 400 Medley Relay, and 3 Meter Diving.
