Minnesota to Represent US National Team at International Cheer Union World Championships

Minnesota is the gold standard in dance competition and has earned 23 national championships – the most in the nation – since 2003

The University of Minnesota Dance Team – fresh off its national championship in Pom and runner-up finish in Jazz – will represent the US National Team at the upcoming International Cheer Union (ICU) World Championships.

The announcement was made earlier this week by USA Cheer, which is the national governing body for Cheer and Dance. 

The event will be held April 23-25 in Orlando at the Wide World of Sports Complex located at Walt Disney World Resort. This will be the third time that Minnesota will represent the US National Team as it also did so in 2010 and 2014. 

Minnesota is the gold standard in dance competition and has earned 23 national championships – the most in the nation – since 2003. 

Last month, the Gophers won the Pom national title for the third straight year at the Universal Dance Association Dance Nationals in Orlando. They also took second in Jazz for the second straight year and most recently won a national championship in Jazz in 2023. 

The ICU was formed in 2004 and is the recognized world-governing body of Cheer (Cheerleading & Performance Cheer). The ICU comprises of 120 member National Cheer Federations / 10 million athletes on all continents, hosts World Championships consistently welcoming over 70 nations, many global continental and regional championships, and continues to grow as a unified voice for all those who are dedicated to the positive advancement of cheerleading throughout the world.
