Five-point series for 'U' sophomore
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Golden Gophers' forward Brodie Ziemer was named the Big Ten Conference Men's Hockey First Star of the Week Tuesday, his first time earning a weekly award from the league.
Â
Ziemer exploded offensively on the road at Ohio State, racking up five points to help secure four crucial points in the B1G standings for Minnesota. The sophomore delivered back-to-back, multi-goal nights for the first time in his career, scoring twice each game against the Buckeyes, and added an assist Friday for his first three-point performance. He does have a four-point outing on his resume coming at home versus Wisconsin in January of last season.
Â
Friday's strikes were clutch, giving Minnesota the lead in both the second and third periods. Two of his goals during the series came on the power play, lifting his season total to seven, tied for second in the NCAA, while his team-leading 12 goals overall rank fifth nationally. A native of Chaska, Minn., Ziemer has already matched his goal total from his freshman season and is now tied for the Gophers' scoring lead with 19 points in 19 appearances during the first half of the campaign.
Â
Ziemer is the third Minnesota representative to land weekly accolades in 2025-26 after forward Javon Moore and goaltender Luca Di Pasquo picked up second star honors on Dec. 2 and Nov. 11, respectively. Last season, the Gophers earned 12 B1G Star of the Week honors, the second-most in the conference, and came from all three position groups: forward, defense, and goaltender.
