She was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention in 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Gophers senior outside hitter Julia Hanson was named AVCA Second Team All-America on Wednesday, the organization announced. Hanson, who was named AVCA All-America Honorable Mention last year, will head to the Final Four banquet in Kansas City, Mo., this week, to receive her honor.
The Savage, Minn., native had a banner season, being named a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and the AVCA Northwest Region Player of the Year in 2025. During her fourth year in the Maroon and Gold, Hanson won Big Ten Player of the Week on Sept. 1 and was named MVP of the Golden Gopher Invitational on Aug. 31.
For the year, she totaled 26 10+ kill matches in 33 chances, posting a career-high 4.09 kills per set, a mark that ranked her fourth in the Big Ten. Hanson also hit a career-best .306, a mark that ranked her third among Big Ten pins. Her 548.5 total points ranked her 29th nationally and fourth in the Big Ten while her 4.09 kills per set put her at 51 in the country and fourth in the B1G. She had 470 total kills (34th nationally, fifth Big Ten) and passed 1,000 for her career on Dec. 5 vs. Fairfield.
Hanson tallied five 20+ kill matches and averaged a career-best 0.30 service aces on the year. Her 26 aces in conference play put her at No. 8 in the Big Ten. Defensively, Hanson posted 0.65 blocks and 1.60 digs per set. She was named as one of 30 players to the AVCA Preseason Player of the Year Watch List and was a Preseason All-Big Ten honoree. Hanson helped Minnesota reach its first Sweet 16 since 2022 this season despite four season-ending injuries to starters.
She's the first Gopher to make an All-America team since the 2022 season.
Minnesota finished the year with a 24-10 (12-8 Big Ten) record, tied for sixth place in the Big Ten Conference.
