Gopher Spirit Squad Set to Host Events Prior to UCA College Nationals

The University of Minnesota Spirit Squad is set to host a pair of upcoming events within the next few weeks in preparation for the UCA/UDA National Championships, Jan. 17-19 in Orlando. Fla.Â
The Minnesota Dance Team will host their annual Best of the Best Dance Showcase presented by Good Molecules on Jan. 10 at Williams Arena. The event is scheduled for a 7 pm start with general admission tickets available HERE. Best of the Best is an invitational showcase, featuring high school and collegiate teams from not only Minnesota, but also across the greater Midwest. This event will also give fans a chance to see the reigning D1A Pom national champion Gophers debut their upcoming routines, both pom and jazz, prior to this year's UDA National Championship.
The Gophers are also hosting their annual Nationals Showcase on Sunday, January 12. The showcase will be held at Maturi Pavilion at 1 pm with doors opening at 11:30 am. This event is free to the public.
The Jan. 12 showcase will feature all the performances the Gophers will be taking down to the UCA/UDA College National Championship. Goldy Gopher will perform his skit for the Mascot division. He is currently ranked fourth after the qualifying video portion of the competition. The cheer team will perform Small Coed Cheer Game Day and Small Coed Cheer routines. Coming off a fourth-place finish in the Coed Cheer Game Day division in 2024, this will be the team's first year competing in the Small Coed Cheer Game day division. Dance will also perform its jazz and pom routines. Jazz was choreographed by two-time Emmy Award Winner Tessandra Chavez, coming off last year's viral performance of a self-choreographed routine to Aerosmith's "Dream On" at the 2024 national championship that earned them national attention and a second-place title. Pom was choreographed by Anna Hilty and Coach Amanda Gaines as the team looks to defend its national title in the Pom division.
The Minnesota Spirit Squad is one of the most decorated and historic programs in the nation, with 26 combined UCA/UDA National Championships.
