No. 24 Minnesota Looks Sharp in Defeat of New Hampshire

Mya Hooten earned a 9.950 on vault, 9.900 on the floor

DURHAM, N.H. -- No. 24 Minnesota defeated New Hampshire 196.375 to 194.550 on Saturday evening to earn its second win of the season. The Gophers improved significantly from their score of 194.450 in their season-opening win over Central Michigan.

"This weekend was a much better representation of who we are," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "Everyone hit their routines, we were 24 for 24. We had some new people step into different lineups and they did great. We need to keep working to get better and get more confident each week."

The Gophers earned a 49.050 on bars, 49.250 on vault, 49.150 on floor and 48.925 on beam.

Sophomore Jordyn Lyden took home her second uneven bars event title in as many meets with a dazzling 9.875. She topped her previous season-best of 9.850 from last week. Lyden also won the beam title with a score of 9.825.

Fifth-year senior Mya Hooten won event titles on both vault (9.950) and floor (9.900), setting season-highs on both. She has three event titles in two meets so far this season.

Minnesota's top event of the evening was vault. The top five scorers all went 9.775-or-better and four went 9.825-or-better. 

"We have a lot of really good vaulters. I can really see that being one of our best events this year," Hansen said.

EVENT BREAKDOWN:

BARS
The Gophers started out with a 49.050 on bars to take an early lead in the meet. Sophomore Jordyn Lyden shined for the Gophers, going 9.875 to take an event title, her second of the year. Mya Hooten and Ava Stewart were up next with 9.825s while Teryn Crump (9.775) and Sophia Nguyen (9.750) rounded out the group.

VAULT
Minnesota earned a stellar 49.250 on the vault. Mya Hooten took home the event title with a 9.950, her second 9.900-or-better vault in two tries this year. Sara Moraw had a great vault as well, going 9.875. Freshmen Teryn Crump and Ava Stewart both set new career-bests with 9.825s while Megan Steensland rounded out the top five at 9.775.

FLOOR
Hooten dazzled once again on the floor, winning an event title with a 9.900. Lauren Pearl, in her return to the East Coast, followed up Hooten at 9.850. 9.825s from Marissa Jencks and Megan Steensland followed up Pearl while Crump earned a 9.750 to finish the top five. As a team, the Gophers scored a 49.150.

BEAM
The beam team finished out the night, earning a team score of 48.925. Jordyn Lyden paced the group with a 9.825 while Ava Stewart came next with a 9.800. Sarah Moraw and Brooklyn Rowray went 9.775 while Lauren Pearl rounded out the top five with a 9.750.

NOTABLE:
-Mya Hooten tallied season-highs in both vault (9.950) and floor (9.900), winning event titles on both.

-Jordyn Lyden took home event titles two and three on the year, earning season-bests on both bars (9.875) and beam (9.825).
-Megan Steensland posted career-highs on vault (9.775), beam (9.825) and floor (9.825).
-Teryn Crump earned career-highs on vault (9.825), bars (9.775) and floor (9.750).
-Ava Stewart registered career-bests on vault (9.825) and bars (9.825).
