Representing Team Canada and Team USA
MINNEAPOLIS - Annika Maiorino and Alexa Mueller, two members of the University of Minnesota rowing team, will represent their home countries at the 2024 World Rowing Senior, U-23, and U-19 Championships (Mega Worlds) between Aug. 18-25 in St. Catharines, Ontario.
"On the heels of the Paris Olympics, we know it is the ultimate honor to represent your country on the international stage," head coach Alicea Strodel said. "We are really excited for Annika and Alexa to be named to their country's U-19 and U-23 teams for the upcoming World Rowing Championships. They will share their experiences and what they learned this summer with our team, and it will make us all better! Good luck to all racing!"
Maiorino is an incoming freshman for the Golden Gophers and set to take part in the U-19 Women's Coxed Four (JW4+) for Team Canada. The coxswain recently graduated from Brentwood College School and guided the team to gold medals in the junior women's four and junior women's eight at the Canadian Secondary School Rowing Association Regatta.
Mueller, a rising sophomore for the Maroon and Gold, was selected by USRowing as an alternate for the American's U-23 Team. The Hampton, Ill., native competed in all eight regattas for Minnesota in her first collegiate campaign, including all six during the spring season as part of the 1V8 boat, which was honored by the Big Ten Conference twice as the B1G Boat of the Week.
In total, 1,183 athletes will be competing at the historic Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course, a site that is hosting a World Rowing event for the first time since 1999. All eight days of competition will be livestreamed on www.worldrowing.com.
