Gophers Spring Back Into First, Clinch B1G Bye

Minnesota (22-10-2 overall, 13-5-0-0 Big Ten) jumped out to a first period lead when Pitlick fired home his 13th goal of the year at 15:25 after Sheehy forced an offensive zone turnover. The freshman forward now has 10 goals in the last 10 games for the Maroon & Gold.
Sheehy put in the eventual game winner at 11:55 of the second period with assists from Pitlick and Justin Kloos as the Gophers captain moved into a tie for 30th all-time at Minnesota with 148 career points (Ken Yackel, Sr., Don Micheletti). Bristedt added to the lead with his 12th of the year at 14:47 of the second period, making it 3-0 when the junior was fed by Vinni Lettieri and Jack Sadek.
Michigan (11-18-3, 4-12-2-2) got on the board at 16:23 of the second stanza with Tony Calderone's 11th of the year, but the Wolverines would get no closer.
Sheehy put home an empty-netter at 18:08 of the third period for his 20th goal of the season, sending the Maroon & Gold home with a three-point lead over Wisconsin in the Big Ten race with two games to play. Bristedt and Jake Bischoff set up the empty-net tally as Bischoff has now tallied a point in a career-best eight-straight games.
Minnesota outshot the home team 37-28 on the night while Minnesota picked up 28 blocks in the game including six from Ryan Lindgren and five from Sadek. The Gophers went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill to improve to 16-0-1 on the year when they do not surrender a power-play goal.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (GopherSports.com) - Tyler Sheehy's three-point night carried the No. 5 Gopher Hockey program to a 4-1 win over Michigan on Saturday night, clinching a first-round bye in the Big Ten Tournament and reclaiming sole possession of first place with two games to play.
With an assist and two goals including the game winner in the victory, Sheehy now leads the Big Ten with 52 points on the year - the most in a season by a Gopher since Ryan Potulny had 63 during the 2005-06 season.
