Danny Irmen Named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

On Friday, Irmen, an alum of Grand Forks Red River High School, scored a goal and two assists to lead all players on the scoresheet. His three-point game was the first of the season and fifth of his career. Irmen assisted on Ryan Potulny</ a>’s game-opening goal and Phil Kessel’s power-play goal in the first period, and scored Minnesota's third goal early in the second. His two assists matched a career best.
On Saturday, Irmen notched a goal and an assist to help UM to the 4-3 win and two-game sweep. He assisted on Potulny’s goal in the first period and played the hero late in the second, scoring the eventual game-winning goal with only 14 seconds to play in the period. The game-winner was his first of the season and sixth of his career. For the weekend, Irmen (2-3--5) accounted for two of Minnesota’s eight goals and three of the Golden Gophers’ eight assists. He had seven shots and was +2 for the series. Since returning from a nine-game absence with a broken finger, Irmen has 4-5--9 in eight games. He now has three multi-point games this season and eight in his career. In his career vs. North Dakota, Irmen has 7 -5--12 in 11 games.
This week’s award is the first for Irmen this season and the third in his career.
The Maroon and Gold takes a break for the Holidays, returning to action on Thursday- Friday, Dec. 29-30, for the Dodge Holiday Classic at Mariucci Arena. Minnesota will host Union, Canisius and UMass-Lowell.
